Behavioral effects of dynorphin -- a novel opioid neuropeptide.
نویسنده
چکیده
Adult male Swiss-kebster mice were implanted with permanently inawelling cannul ae with tips within the lateral cerebral ventricle. The neuropeptide dynorphin was infused centrally and subjects were tested on a variety of behavioral tasks. Peptide treated mice were more likely than vehicle treated mice to eat and groom. At higher doses, dynorphin treated mice showed barrel rotation which was occasionally succeeded by death. Effects upon behavior were only partially reversible by naloxone.

Differential target-dependent actions of coexpressed inhibitory dynorphin and excitatory hypocretin/orexin neuropeptides.
The hypocretin/orexin arousal system plays a key role in maintaining an alert wake state. The hypocretin peptide is colocalized with an opioid peptide, dynorphin. As dynorphin may be coreleased with hypocretin, we asked what action simultaneous stimulation with the excitatory neuropeptide hypocretin and the inhibitory peptide dynorphin might exert on cells postsynaptic to hypocretin axons, incl...
متن کاملKappa Opioids, Salvinorin A and Major Depressive Disorder
Opioids are traditionally associated with pain, analgesia and drug abuse. It is now clear, however, that the opioids are central players in mood. The implications for mood disorders, particularly clinical depression, suggest a paradigm shift from the monoamine neurotransmitters to the opioids either alone or in interaction with monoamine neurons. We have a special interest in dynorphin, the las...
متن کاملL-type calcium channels mediate dynorphin neuropeptide release from dendrites but not axons of hippocampal granule cells
Granule cells in the guinea pig dentate gyrus release kappa opioid neuropeptides, dynorphins, from dendrites as well as from axon terminals. We have found that both L- and N-type calcium channel antagonists inhibited dendritic dynorphin release. In contrast, N-type but not L-type calcium channel antagonists inhibited axonal dynorphin release. Neither L- nor N-type channel antagonists directly a...
متن کاملBehavioral effects of dynorphin 1-13 in the mouse and rat: initial observations.
Dynorphin is a recently identified, pharmacologically potent endogenous opioid peptide. Heretofore it has not been characterized for its behavioral effects. The effects of centrally infused dynorphin upon a variety of behaviors were therefore examined in mice and rats. The present findings point to a specific profile of behavioral activity. The peptide was active in facilitating feeding and gro...
